At the weekend I had the absolute pleasure of guiding a heart opening cacao ceremony and yoga journey for women. Beginning by allowing this sacred plant medicine to warm and open our hearts to self love, worth and connection, we then journeyed through somatic movement, mantras, mudras, meditation, breathwork, restorative shapes, yoga nidra and sound healing. Thank you to each woman who carved out this time for yourself to join me 🩷

HAPPY OSTARA ☯️ Today we step over the threshold of winter into spring with the spring equinox, where the sun accurately lines up with the equator, welcoming a fresh season ☀️A time of perfect balance between light and dark. Day and night are of equal length, symbolic of yin and Yang, the duality of all things, demonstrating the importance of inviting balance into our lives.

Yin and yang are opposite yet complementary principles. Yin is restful, quiet, slow, still and dark. Yang is dynamic, light, strong and assertive.
These two energies are interdependent, so cannot exist without one another. So we can see the importance of balancing these two qualities both in our yoga practice and daily life.

In yoga mythology the sun and moon are known to represent the two polar energies of the body, forming the word HA(sun)THA(moon). This is emblematic of how practice can deepen our connection to the cyclical energies around and within us, by physically, emotionally and energetically balancing body and mind, and allowing that feeling of equilibrium to filter off the mat and into our daily lives.

☯️ Within your yoga practice, see if you can notice which movements, postures and the phases of each breath have either quality of yin or yang.
☯️ Tune into how you are feeling physically, mentally, emotionally and energetically and bespoke your practice accordingly in order to restore balance, equilibrium and homeostasis that can filter off your mat into your day.
☯️ Practice alternate nostril breathing to balance the flow of both yin and yang within.
☯️ Use sun salutations as a way to connect with the cyclical rhythms of nature and greet the lighter half of the year.
☯️ ALWAYS rest within your practice. This is non-negotiable as far as I'm concerned 😂
☯️ During pauses, allow yourself to be yin and send gratitude to the dark half of the year for the light it is giving way to.
☯️Take a moment to consider where in your life you are in and out of balance.
☯️ Finally, move with the mantra “I invite balance into my life”.

Hello March full moon 🌕 Also known as the worm moon, or chaste moon, named after the emergence and purity of spring, a time synonymous with new beginnings or fresh starts.

A full moon invites us to connect more deeply with ourselves and nature. It is a time to physically slow down in order to balance the potent, heightened energy that surrounds us. To fully observe what comes to light, what uniquely inspires and sustains you, what fills your cup and allows you to bloom into your own full potential.

As we enter the growing phase of the year, the season is coaxing us out of our shell of hibernation in order to step out of the shadows and into the spotlight of our fullness. To root down and rise up, to ground, nourish, purify and grow. This sense of the earth awakening, can bring us fresh perspective. Each waking moment is an opportunity to renew or restart. To cleanse, clarify, press refresh and wipe the slate clean, as well as plant and nurture seeds of intentions.

During your yoga practice, can you press refresh on any preconceived ideas of yoga, yourself or your previous practices? Perhaps exploring new or different options as a way of expanding your yogic repertoire and growing your practice. Bringing in new perspectives to gain a clearer understanding of what you need in the moment. As you immerse yourself within your breath-led movement, allow your mind to clear, as the light of the full moon shines down to reveal what resources you in that moment. What brings you clarity. What feeds you physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

As you bask in the radiant spotlight of the full moon, consider what will nourish, purify and empower you to both ground and grow, root and rise into your fullest expression, as the season of spring evolves.

This International Women's Day I had the absolute honour and pleasure of hosting a day retreat for 22 gorgeous, powerful women! I am in awe of you all for carving out this time to vacate your busy, sometimes challenging lives to reclaim self love and connection. Celebrating yourself with an immersive combination of somatic yoga, rest practices, sound healing, meditation, embodied movement, breathwork, kick-ass playlists, mudras, mantras, self enquiry, poetry, nature's wisdom, nourishing food, like-minded company, plus an incredible jewellery workshop with @lydialotusdesigns 🧘

Here we sat in sacred circle to courageously share glimpses and glimmers of our true selves, as if shedding a skin. We explored what it means to be a woman, honouring the inevitable times of change, transition and evolution, reflecting on all phases and seasons of life.

We acknowledged the ways we have grown stronger and wiser out of the dark, muddy, obstacles of life, and re-established our roots, harnessing what enables us to feel stable, strong and supported, what gives us a sense of belonging.

We fiercely ignited our creatrix power through the beauty of craft, play and authenticity, reclaiming our inherent power and gifts. We were so bold as to slow down, rest and be held, and tenderly plant seeds of self assurance, self knowing, acceptance, love and devotion 🌱

We communed with the energies, wisdom and frequencies of mother earth in her many manifestations and guises, and saluted the growing power of the moon. Allowing her to illuminate our own cyclical wisdom, acknowledging our enoughness, and weeding out anything that tells us otherwise. Her burgeoning fullness lighting the way as we forge your own path, write our own rules, take up space, be the star of our own life and welcome ourselves home.🩷

Thank you so much for your trust, time, energy and company as we held this sacred space for you 🙏 And thank you to @birminghambuddhistcentre for being our beautiful home for the day 🪷

TONIGHT we welcome February’s full moon 🌕 Named ‘Hunger Moon’ by ancient, indigenous cultures, due to the seasonal weather making food more scarce for both humans and animals.
Although, luckily for most of us these days that is no longer the case, we are, more often than not, hungry for something. Be it something physical, mental or emotional, we all crave things that will improve our quality of life, help us grow, prosper, adapt or let go.

Full Moons provide a catalyst for us to feel more deeply, intuitively, and fully. A metaphorical spotlight, illuminating what is ready to come to our attention. Allowing us to fully see what will nourish and satiate us.

In your yoga practice, amplify the yogic practice of Tapas meaning discipline or passion (not the Spanish food variety). It's the internal fire that gives us the drive towards spiritual growth and personal evolution. We can think of tapas as having the courage and focus to fulfil our own unique needs rather than try to fit in or conform. Tapas is a reminder to keep showing up on the mat. To employ the discipline to put ego aside, and remain connected with the present moment, the sensations and energy levels in our body and the thoughts and feelings in the mind.

Understanding that, just like in a restaurant, your yoga practice offers a menu of choices. So each time you return to your mat, having the drive to stay focussed on the breath in order to fuel the flames of tapas, and give your inner wisdom the appetite to find what really satiates the cravings of your body, mind and soul, regardless of what others are doing, or what you did in previous practices.

Perhaps for you it takes discipline to remain connected with your breath, or to hold back from forcing your body into too strong sensations. Perhaps you find moving slowly or being still a discipline.

We can also apply Tapas to our daily lives, maintaining mindfulness around all we do, remaining connected with our own personal growth and committing to what we need to do to continue on that path, be it with career, relationships, health, rest, self care, a home or healing.

It meanders like a stream through the forest, and we too contain the wisdom to flow through life and adapt to change, rather than resisting or fighting what comes our way. After all, the human body is made up of over 70% water. You are a body of water!

The water element is connected with our emotions, often expressed in tears of joy or sorrow. Yoga philosophy places the water element in the pelvis and hips. This area is often shut down in the Western world by sitting for long periods of time, tightening our hips and keeping our emotions stuck and frozen, creating tension and rigidity, both physically and mentally.

During your practice, see if you can focus on your hips in order to release physical, mental and emotional tension, and create more fluid, open space.

Rather than trying to emulate someone else or a previous practice, find your own way to flow. Invite a sense of fluidity into your body by focussing more on the movements and transitions in between the postures. Cultivate the ability to be adaptable and at ease with the subtle changing currents and tides within your body, rather than sticking with the same ways of doing things. Creating a fluidity that can then filter into the mind.

Quite often, the surface of a lake or river can be quite rough or choppy, but as it gets deeper, it gets calm and still. There’s that saying, “still waters run deep", and the same goes for our yoga practice. The more presence, mindfulness and awareness we can cultivate on the mat, the deeper in we dive, and the mind can perhaps become calm and clear.

The qualities of water can then go with you, off your mat, pouring a sense of fluidity, patience, deep calm and flow into your day to day. Allowing you to find a greater sense of clarity and peace when adapting to the changing tides and currents of life, navigating obstacles with grace, finding more clarity and depth no matter what else is happening.

TONIGHT welcomes January’s full moon 🌕 traditionally named Wolf Moon in native America, inspired by the wolves who howled with hunger outside the villages. Wolves also howl for many other reasons, including to locate pack members, reinforce social bonds, and gather for hunting.

The message we receive from the wolf moon is to not to go it alone. Rather, to connect, commune and unite. 🐺

The wolf teaches us that we thrive the most when we integrate ourselves within societies that lift and support us, be it community, family, friendships, work, or spirit. ✨

As this wolf energy fills the skies, this is your opportunity to draw in the support you have around you, to not only survive, but to thrive.

As the moon's cyclical journey gently ebbs and flows, it understands that times of fullness will eventually be balanced with moments of healing darkness. This reflects our inward and outward focus, the duality of our energies and needs. This shows the purpose of duality in our yoga practice. The importance of community, compassion, and seeing others as we see ourselves, mirrored with introspection, self study, and listening in. The inner connection of mind body breath and soul as one.

Use your practice to connect with yogis all around the world 🌏 You are all united by this sacred, healing practice. The lifeforce you draw in and out via the breath, connects you with every living thing. You are not alone.

Thank you 2024 for the work I created with you ✨
I taught 213 practices, hosted two weekends retreats, one day retreat, plus my annual rest practice that catalysed this whole year of yoga magic. We have come full circle yet expanded and grown with time, patience and devotion.
Each year I integrate more and more of myself into my work. My heart, thoughts, feels, truth and rawness. The work we do together gets deeper, more empowering, enriching and hearted. I'm already excited to see where we go in 2025 💫

MERRY CHRISTMAS FRIENDS 🎄

Here is where we welcome the winter solstice- the longest night of the year. This gradual shift from darkness is celebrated as a return to light, and as such is aligned with a sense of hope ✨

But rather than fear the dark, we can take the opportunity to celebrate this nocturnal pause. Afterall, it's in the darkness where life begins, healing takes place and dreams come to life. The shimmering lights of Christmas are a reminder that even in the darkness there is always some light to guide us on our way.

In this week of maximum darkness, allow your yoga practice to centre around gathering, healing, rest and sustenance for the cold months ahead. Perhaps light some candles and give artificial light a rest. Close your eyes as much as possible, learning to see in the proverbial dark, while allowing your inner light to intuitively guide you to discern what feels (rather than looks) best in the moment.

Perhaps indulge in some slow and simple sun salutations as a gentle way to gradually invite back the light.

Take the time to prepare for your practice and each posture, almost like the ritualistic way animals gather and prepare what they need for hibernation.

The Winter Solstice is believed to harness a powerful energy for renewal and self-reflection. We can perhaps see the solstice as the fourth and final movement in our 2024 life-symphony.

As the year gradually draws to a close, the enduring darkness offers a blank canvas for you to start a fresh in the new year.

In yoga philosophy the sun symbolises the soul. The word “solstice,” in Latin, means "sun standing still", so in a sense, today, your soul stands still so you can reflect on the past year and notice what your inner light reveals. What would you prefer to leave behind? What do you intend to bring with you or manifest next year? ✨

Your Intentions and dreams are the stepping stones that guide you like a compass towards your highest, truest potential ✨

TONIGHT we welcome December's full moon 🌕 Traditionally named the Cold Moon due to the chilly weather that has begun to prevail at this time of the seasonal cycle. Another name given is Long Nights Moon, as it shines during some the longest nights of the year, just ahead of the winter solstice.

A full moon invites us to reflect and learn, as the sun illuminates the entire moon’s surface, acting as a metaphorical spotlight, shining down on things that are ready to come to our attention.

This colder, darker, more nocturnal season is an invitation to retreat, hibernate, nest and get cosy. During your yoga practice, consider the ritualistic way animals patiently prepare for hibernation, and seeing how you prepare your body for each posture in the same way. How you gather what you need to support your body and eventually find rest.

How yoga teachers ACTUALLY decorate their Christmas tree 🎄
It's the same joke every year, but Christmas is all about tradition and ritual, right?

Tradition in our house has become having a Christmas tree DAY! It literally takes us all day to choose and buy our tree, install it, trim, add the lights (always more stressful than you think), then the best bit of putting all our lovely decorations on while listening to Christmas songs all day.

Each time we go on holiday we buy something to hang on our Christmas tree to remind us of our travels and appreciate the amazing times we have together. This is our first Christmas as a married couple and also included the place markers from our wedding breakfast ❤️

Then we collapse on the sofa in front of a Christmas film with mulled wine and a cheese board.

Another tradition I now have is making a wreath with my mom 🌟

I barely do any Christmas shopping anymore as these experiences, memories, rituals and traditions feel far more valuable and important ❤️ I do love to send cards though 😊

Autumn is a precious and reflective time, and so is coupled with the metal element.
Metal and Autumn are all about transformation and change. Metal is the most malleable substance. It can be changed and transformed over and over without losing integrity or flexibility.

Change is the only constant thing we can expect in life. Just as the trees release their leaves in Autumn so that they may grow new buds in Spring, we also go through changes every moment of every day. We have seasons when we flourish, and seasons when our leaves fall from us, revealing our bare branches. We do not always welcome change, sometimes we resist it or put it off. Perhaps uncertainty or the unknown is even feared. Yet the more we can let go of rigid plans or expectations, and allow for moments of change and transformation, the more integrity, flexibility and adaptability we have to discover what’s of most value to us. So the physical flexibility we seek to gain on our yoga mats, is simply a metaphor for the mental flexibility we need to navigate change and transformation.

And similar to the valuable metals found deep within the dark earth like buried treasure, through change, strength and flexibility, we can also discover our own self worth and value.

Within your asana practice, see if you can equally prioritise both strength and flexibility. Maintaining awareness of what feels most precious and valuable to you, while letting go of any ideas or postures that may be of harm, that you simply do out of habit, or are of no value, retaining your sense of self worth and integrity within your practice. All the while accepting that this is all subject to change. Allow these teachings to then journey with you off your yoga mat and into your daily life.

Each full moon acts as a radiant spotlight, shining down on things that are ready to come to our attention. And so, right now, the energy of the earth is gathering in, quietening down, simplifying, cocooning, retreating, nesting and resting 😴

And even though this happens without fail, each year, the prevailing grind culture of the human world carries on going, growing, gaining, striving, rushing, racing, huffing, puffing, calculating, competing. But our plant and animal friends don't disregard the winter. They prepare. They adapt. They perform extraordinary acts of metamorphosis to get them through. Rest is not valued in our culture.

Sometimes it’s challenging to go against the grain and succumb to the energy of the seasons. Perhaps your responsibilities and the pace of your life make it seem like an impossible luxury to slow down, simplify and rest. Perhaps being slow is outside of your comfort zone. Perhaps you’re unsure of how to find rest or feel at home within yourself. Maybe there is even some guilt or even shame around allowing yourself to put everything down and just be. Never taking a moment to come back to stillness, to breath, to nature, to self. To home.

See your yoga practice as an opportunity to allow the mind to take refuge within the body, the body to inhabit your movements and shapes, all the while connected with the cyclical phases of your breath. Finding a cosy sense of security and acceptance within this bespoke practice that you build and nurture for yourself. Fostering that sense of home and belonging whatever season or phase of life you are in.

At the weekend, I had the entire pleasure and honour of guiding 15 courageous goddesses in a three day retreat. ✨ It has taken me a few days to find the words to describe the power and magic that unfolded. I have been brought to tears when reflecting on the stories and words these amazing women shared. My heart is overflowing with love, admiration, gratitude and awe. It is so incredible how quickly and compassionately we can form bonds of healing, trust and sisterhood when we take the time to vacate our daily lives, and put down our armour of responsibility and obligation.

This was an immersive, empowering and brave journey into rest and celebrating womanhood and the season of autumn through ancient rituals, healing ceremonies, nurturing yoga, science, magic and profound sisterhood.

We aligned with our inherent connection to the cycles, rhythms and phases of nature, and thus reclaimed our divinity, enoughness and birth right to rest. We delved into our shadows and darkness and reconnected with what we have hidden, dimmed or forgotten about ourselves 🍂

Under the waning moon we shed skins and layers of responsibility, societal and patriarchal conditioning and anything that stands between us and rest into a sacred fire, and reconnected with the feeling of home within ourselves so that we can find rest wherever we find ourselves in the world or in whichever season of phase of life we are in.

We laughed, cried, walked, shared, talked, rested, played, hugged and whispered to trees, breathed, meditated, journaled, danced, wolf howled and scoffed wholesome, plant based food.

This is the most deeply integrated, hearted and authentic work I have shared to date. Even as facilitator, it felt important to show my emotions, truth, and vulnerability as well as my strength, authority and purpose. It is time we stop apologising for existing, taking up space, feeling all the feelings and thinking rest is a treat, bonus or something we do when we are exhausted. As nature demonstrates, there is great power and bravery in rest and renewal.

At the weekend, I had the entire pleasure and honour of guiding 15 courageous goddesses in a three day retreat. ✨ It has taken me a few days to find the words to describe the power and magic that unfolded. I have been brought to tears when reflecting on the stories and words these amazing women shared. My heart is overflowing with love, admiration, gratitude and awe. It is so incredible how quickly and compassionately we can form bonds of healing, trust and sisterhood when we take the time to vacate our daily lives, and put down our armour of responsibility and obligation.

The moon is a reminder that we are still whole no matter what phase we are in, and to celebrate our fullness. When you attune to the Moon, you embody its qualities of fluidity and renewal, fullness, letting go and darkness, aligning you more deeply with the inherent rhythms of nature.

Tonight, the full moon invites you to harness your inner hunter and forage within yourself for what nourishes and satiates your mind, body and soul, both on and off your yoga mat 🌕To seek out and store up any beliefs, habits and relationships that feed you in a positive and healthy way, and to pursue your hopes, dreams and wildest desires, all under this natural beacon through the ever-darkening autumn skies.

TONIGHT we welcome October’s full Moon 🌕 traditionally named Hunter’s moon as the resulting light makes it the best time for animals and humans alike to forage, hunt and stock up on food in preparation for the long winter ahead.

The moon is a reminder that we are still whole no matter what phase we are in, and to celebrate our fullness. Our dark side as much as our light 🌕 The full moon invites you to reflect and learn as the sun illuminates the entire moon’s surface, acting as a metaphorical spotlight, shining down on things that are ready to come to your attention. When you attune to the Moon, you embody its qualities of fluidity and renewal, fullness, letting go and darkness, aligning you more deeply with the inherent rhythms of nature.

Tonight, the full moon invites you to harness your inner hunter and forage within yourself for what nourishes and satiates your mind, body and soul, both on and off your yoga mat 🌕To seek out and store up any beliefs, habits and relationships that feed you in a positive and healthy way, and to pursue your hopes, dreams and wildest desires, all under this natural beacon through the ever-darkening autumn skies.

In yoga philosophy, the sun and moon represent the two polar energies of the body. That is where the word 'Hatha' originates from.
HA = ☀️ and THA = 🌙

Taking the time to reflect on all the incredible people this job has allowed me to meet (yes, that includes you my friend!) and all the awesome places I've had the pleasure of teaching at.

There have been hundreds of classes at studios, houses, cafes, gardens, offices, pubs, universities, galleries, churches, hotels and on zoom. Plus 2 weekend retreats, 10 day retreats, 19 yin yoga workshops, 1 women's circle and 75 full moons. There's much more in the pipeline for 2024 and 2025 so WATCH THIS SPACE 👀

The journey still feels like it has only just begun, and everyday I have to pinch myself because I think I have the best job in the world. I still want to cry with joy every time I teach a class, like I did when I completed my exam!

I am high on love and laughter after my epic hen party yesterday 🥰 We began with a beautiful bridal blessing, held perfectly by @lilygauri who guided us through a spiritual journey of love, friendship, connection, cacao, movement, meditation, breathwork, ceremony and sharing stories 🩷

I was then surprised by a delightful and funny evening of nostalgia, dancing and wine at @graceandjameskh 🥂

Thank you to my amazing, lifelong friend, best woman and soul sister @tinface 👯‍♀️ for organising and crafting the most wonderful day. For all the thoughtful relics of nostalgia, including our idol Hyacinth Bucket and the quiz and cast from Friends 😂

And thank you to all these amazing women for being part of it. For being part of me!
These wonderful beings are from different areas and eras of my life and know me in different ways and forms, so it was incredible to have them all together and witness them all bonding so effortlessly.

TONIGHT we welcome August's full moon 🌕 Known as the Sturgeon moon, due to an abundance of this large, strong fish currently populating the fresh waters of the world.

The sturgeon is one of the longest living fish, and therefore symbolic of survival, longevity and empowerment 🐟

The full moon acts as a metaphorical spotlight, shining down on things that are ready to come to our attention, and the tough sturgeon fish is swimming into our lives to show us we too are strong and resourceful.

This is a very self protective fish, with built-in defence mechanisms to shield them from harm. We can be inspired by this intuitive act of self care both on and off our yoga mats.

Self-care is defined as the practice of taking action to preserve and protect your own health, happiness and wellbeing, and yoga can be one of your self-care tools. A way to regularly take time to come back to yourself, cultivate resilience, foster kindness and presence, bathe in your enoughness and fullness, exactly as you are, and nourish yourself in a loving, non-judgemental way.

However long you have been practising yoga, approach your practice with the sole intention of nurturing your holistic wellbeing. Take the time to be mindful in your movements and kind to your body, allowing the postures to nourish, ground and restore you. To cultivate an inner strength, as well as the outer. To preserve your energies, protect your health and invest in your longevity. Empower yourself to bespoke your practice in accordance with what feels purposeful and beneficial in that moment. Rather than getting caught up in the net of self-judgement or comparing yourself to others, find freedom in swimming through your practice with confidence and grace, all under the wise radiant spotlight of the full sturgeon moon 🐟.

In Chinese philosophy, this time of late Summer is associated with the element of earth.
In a world of constant change, Earth is stability! A secure place to reconnect. Nature and the seasons guide us through our own transitions and phases, with earth providing a sense of grounding, support and connection as we journey through our own evolution.

The emotions associated with earth are sympathy, worry, anxiety and empathy.
Just as the earth is the caretaker and nurturer of all, when balanced, our own Earth element reflects itself in our ability to be empathic to our own needs as well as others. We are more grounded, peaceful, considerate and supportive.
However, if our personal bank balance of care and stability is not topped up regularly, we may become overbearing, protective, needy or anxious.

At this time of year, the season is calling us back down to earth to nourish, restore and reground ourselves. To take stock of the summer growing season, notice where we are at, and prepare to slowly and gently journey into autumn.

The season of summer is associated with the element of fire 🔥 which like the sun, is warm, bright and expansive, helping everything ripen and mature. Equally, we all have phases where we feel as if we are maturing, shining or progressing. Where we feel, energetic, abundant and expressive. Where our inner fire is ignited with passion, optimism, joy and confidence.

And so it makes sense that the fire element resides within the heart, the organ that sets the rhythm for our life, and senses what feels right or wrong. The epicentre of our passions, emotions, and convictions 🧡

So fire energises, but it can also consume. At times, it may feel like our spark for life is dim, or we could burn out completely, so it’s crucial to keep this energy in balance.

Within your yoga practice, can you mindfully explore what sets your heart alight with passion, joy and energy? Using this time to have a heart-to-heart with yourself. Instead of following your head, follow the felt sense of your heart, as it opens, expands and ripens with a practice that ignites with compassion, awareness and conviction, leading you to find what feels right in that moment. Firing up your soul’s desires with the joy, passion and vibrancy that comes from being expressive, mindful, skilful, connected, and fully immersed in the moment.

Allow yourself to be energised by the warmth and openness you create, while also indulging in moments of stillness and rest in order to cool and balance that ember, ensuring the fire neither gets out of control or burns out. It’s all about that delicate balance as you and your practice shines and matures, both on and off your yoga mat.

TONIGHT welcomes July's full moon 🌕 traditionally named Buck Moon to honour the male deer who regrow their previously shed antlers around this time of year 🦌

We can use this idea of shedding, or letting go in order to make way for the new in both our yoga practice and day to day, as a way to embrace the transitions, changes and phases of life along the way. Acknowledging that we, like the moon, like the buck, are also on a cyclical journey of transformation, growth, fullness and letting go. Remembering even the moon can’t hold onto its’ fullness. Eventually it wanes and draws in and resets.

Letting go, or non-attachment is central to a holistic yoga practice, fortified by the yogic concept of Aparigraha, teaching us the value of not holding on to, clinging or attaching ourselves to our possessions, thoughts, experiences or ways of being. It’s the practice of regularly taking the opportunity to shed our metaphorical antlers. Our out-moded beliefs, unhelpful thoughts, habits or relationships. To embrace the new, grow stronger and be more at ease with the hurdles that lie in our path.

Within our yoga practice this could mean taking the time to savour each posture, movement, transition and breath, before letting go and moving on. Not getting attached to the results, outcome or preconceptions of our practice.
And remember that everything we do, create and learn on the yoga mat is a reflection of what can be off the mat.

The practice of Aparigraha offers us the freedom to do what we love without worrying about the outcome. To rely less on external things to make us happy, to embrace change and let go of things that are hindering or weighing us down, and feel lighter, clearer and more empowered to regrow into our fullest potential over and over. Like the moon. Like the buck.

Letting go, or non-attachment is central to a holistic yoga practice, fortified by the yogic concept of Aparigraha, teaching us the value of not holding on to, clinging or attaching ourselves to our possessions, thoughts, experiences or ways of being. It’s the practice of regularly taking the opportunity to shed our metaphorical antlers. Our out-moded beliefs, unhelpful thoughts, habits or relationships. To embrace the new, grow stronger and be more at ease with the hurdles that lie in our path.

Within our yoga practice this could mean taking the time to savour each posture, movement, transition and breath, before letting go and moving on. Not getting attached to the results, outcome or preconceptions of our practice.
And remember that everything we do, create and learn on the yoga mat is a reflection of what can be off the mat.

The practice of Aparigraha offers us the freedom to do what we love without worrying about the outcome. To rely less on external things to make us happy, to embrace change and let go of things that are hindering or weighing us down, and feel lighter, clearer and more empowered to regrow into our fullest potential over and over. Like the moon. Like the buck.

I've recently been in a situation that showed me how much my yoga practice shows up in my life. Despite it being stressful, unpredictable and hurtful, I've also felt empowered by how I managed to respond with reverence towards myself and others, which is completely different to what my default has been in the past.

I see that my yoga practice helps me (sometimes) be less reactive when feeling threatened, more truthful in owning the part I played and also maintaining empathy, even when it isn't reciprocated. That I am able to ground myself and self soothe as something uncomfortable or uncertain is unfolding. That I can choose to detach from strong emotions as they arise. To soften when things are hard. I haven't always been like that, and am still not sometimes, but it's encouraging when it can and does happen and I can turn towards that when it's most needed.

This isn't an appeal for you to feel sorry for me, or to say I'm right, or gossip about a situation, or get you to wonder what occurred.
It's to say that yoga really is a quiet but potent magic that can hold and nurture us through difficult encounters. That it is entirely human and valid to experience all emotions, no matter who we are, our station in life or the parameters of others' expectations or opinions of us.
That yogis get angry, stressed, make honest mistakes or have poor judgement sometimes too.

Yoga never guaranteed endless bliss and a struggle-free life full of nothing but love and light because we pull shapes on a mat every week, but an inner working of how to navigate the journey of being human.
That we never truly know what someone has been or is going through, and that we don't have to relate, match or understand for their feelings or actions to be valid, and vice versa. And as we grow we may no longer fit some places or people.

Our life experiences get stored within us and it takes a lot to separate ourselves from what triggers our deeply stored truths, to loosen their grip on us. This to me is far more valuable than being super bendy or looking hot in nice leggings.The physical benefits are simply a by-product and metaphor.
